Church Street Montessori

A caring environment where children learn through doing

Philosophy and Curriculum

Curriculum

We follow the educational philosophy and curriculum as envisioned by Dr. Maria Montessori as outlined by the A.M.I. (Association Montessori Internationale) training centres.

We provide an environment that will support the child’s natural development in order that he or she can make the best use of the potential within him or her.

Areas of the classroom include:

  • practical life
  • sensorial
  • language
  • math

Geography, biology, botony, zoology, art, music and physical eduation are offered as extensions of the four areas listed above.

Each child progresses at his own rate of learning.

Montessori at a Glance

The Montessori classroom breaks form traditional concepts of education by providing freedom of choice within limits.

The child in the Montessori classroom is not taught, but guided on an individualized path, upholding the belief that children learn through doing when the work is at their level.

The child in the Montessori classroom works with specially designed materials that are appealing and meaningful. They are self-correcting which allows the child to develop confidence and independence.

With the three-year age mix, the older children motivate the younger children, and the older children develop confidence and a sense of responsibility. Together, this fosters a social climate of mutual caring and respect.

Parental Involvement

Parents are encouraged to attend interviews, classroom observations and parent workshops that are offered throughout the year. The more the parent knows about Montessori, the more the child will benefit from his/her Montessori experience.
